Smoothie Savvy

Who doesn’t like a good ole’ thirst quenching smoothie after an intense sweat session? Winking smile

Lately, I have been coming up with some amazing combinations for post workout smoothies and it would be a shame if I didn’t share them with you! They are that delicious. And who couldn’t use some inspiration or new recipes for smoothies, right? Winking smile

Well, it all started out with this smoothie. Rich and creamy. Just like an iced cappuccino that everyone seems to crave in the hot summer months.

It was only recently that I came up with this amazing smoothie. Even in the bone-chilling (depending where you are) winter months, this smoothie can make it feel as though you are at the beach catching some rays.

Yes, I have made some good smoothies in the past. Some worth sharing, like the ones above and some that are random combos of fruit that I have on hand; both great for after a workout!

But todays smoothie combination beat any other that I have ever made.

Ever.

Maybe it was due to the fact that it was my first ever “green” smoothie.

Or maybe it was due to the fact that it had a date in it – a food that I had been avoiding for quite some time…

Who knows why this smoothie was as good as it was exactly, all I do know is that you have to try it Winking smile

It was thick and creamy.

And kind of greeny Winking smile (kind of)

(I must apologize for the hideous pictures – Magic Bullet mugs aren’t all that attractive, but they do the trick!)

Meg’s First Not-So-Green Green Smoothie

1 cup blueberries
1 handful spinach
1 medjool date
1/2 cup almond milk
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (can use cocoa in replace of protein powder if you wish!)
2 – 4 ice cubes

Blend and drink up!

Smile

Have you ever put spinach in your smoothies before? I know it’s not a “new” thing, but it was a new-to-me thing this morning!
How do you use dates? It was my first time ever having a date this morning, too! I shied away from them due to their sugar content, but after a workout that’s what my body needs – quick acting carbs! So, what better to throw into my shake than a date! Oh it was good! I think it was the secret ingredient! Winking smile
Are you watching the Golden Globes? Can I just say… Reese Witherspoon… SO gorgeoussss! XO love her.

  1. Yummmm that smoothie looks and sounds delicious! I drink out of my magic bullet all the time too! I always sneak spinach into my smoothies to get my greens in. I definitely don’t eat enough veggies with my meals so it’s definitely a way to make sure I’m getting some green goodness!

  2. I use frozen spinach to make them thicker and colder! My green smoothies never look as beautiful as everyone’s, sometimes they are brown, lol…just depends what you throw in there :)

  3. I have never tried spinach in my smoothies, and I don’t think I could. The idea just grosses me out! Haha.

Oh man, even you beat me to creating a FB page! I’ve had lots of people asking me if I have a page lately, so it’s something I need to do once I finish up at work.

  4. Yum! I actually make a smoothie almost identical to this except I use vanilla protein powder. So delicious! And lately I’ve been putting kale in my smoothies, rather than spinach. It’s a fun change!
And OF COURSE I watched The Golden Globes. They were amazing! And all of the fashion this year was outstanding. Ahhh…<3

  5. I love green smoothie. I did a smoothie with a cup of vanilla soymilk, half a mango and spinach. Really good.

I have dates with peanut or hazelnut butter in the morning, after a workout or as my afternoon snack (i like it before my workout)

  6. Yay for green smoothies! I even put one in the gazette last week so I HOPE it gets to the masses. :)

    I love the new site.

I have a bunch of dates in my fridge…none on my calendar, sadly. Ok, that was a bad joke! But they’re leftover from holiday vegan, gluten free baking efforts and that means I have some more baking to do, don’t you think!?

  7. I love green smoothies (with either spinach or kale) but I’ve never tried putting dates in mine! Definitely gonna need to try that because I love dates! I like to chop them up into oatmeal, make homemade Larabars, or make almond butter and date balls.

  8. I had smoothie for breakfast this morning:

    1 scoop protein
    1 cup almond milk
    1/2 cup blueberries
    1/2 large banana
    1 TBSP macadamia nut butter
    1 TBSP flax seed

I’ve seen some people put the frozen spinach in their smoothies. I’m not sure if the frozen or fresh is supposed to be better. I prefer to add nut butter, flax, chia and thigs to smoothie to give it the balance of the fat.

I hear magic bullets are great, but their expensive for me at this time. But they look really efficient!

  9. Oh, and I like to take dates and split them open and “stuff” with nut butter or coconut butter. Really yum. Good idea to add it to a smoothie because I think that is highly recommended.
Someone recently posted a recipe for a “oatmeal cookie smoothie” and it consisted of protein powder, rolled oats, almond milk, dates, and something else …sounds awesome.

  10. I love the new site, it looks fantastic! I love adding spinach to my smoothies, I think it helps make the smoothie thicker, and I don’t like the texture as much when I leave it out! I’ve never put dates in mine before though, great idea :)

  11. I’ve really gotta put our blender to use- it’s starting to collect dust sitting in the cabinet :P I’ve been interested in purchasing a Magic Bullet- do you like yours?

Loveddd Julie Bowen’s dress last night- stunning!!!

    • Oh girl, I love my Magic Bullet :) I don’t think you can go wrong with purchasing one! I am not lying when I say I use mine EVERY DAY

  12. I’ve never thought to put a medjool date in a smoothie before! Gotta try is asap :)

I loved Reese’s gown too! I think my favorite was Nicole Kidman’s though, SO PRETTY!!! :D

  13. I looooove smoothies. Post workout and whenever!! I have put spinach in my smoothies before. Great way to get in some extra nutrients. I liked you on fb :D

  14. haha! I just read this post today and I also posted about non-green smoothies on my blog this morning! Great minds think alike :)
