The Damage

by Meg on March 28, 2012

Hello darlings! :)

What a busy girl I have been over the past day and a half, but I am getting through – no worries! Despite the business, I wanted to take some time out of my day to thank all of you for your love and support throughout this whole mess I’m dealing with right now :)
Yes, it sucks, but it could be much, much worse. All the comments and emails that I have been receiving from all of you are so wonderful and I cannot even begin to show you how much I appreciate the friendships that I have made with all of you <3 Again, thank you so much!

I also wanted to give you a little recap on the happenings after the flood!

Recap
- I came back to my apartment after spending the night at the hotel and learnt that the flood got much worse once I left :( Like, much much worse. My ceiling is sagging, the paint on my walls are hanging like drapes… let’s just say it’s a mess. So, I was told that I had to move since there was a lot more than needed to be fixed and replaced other than just the carpets. Luckily, the apartment I was living in had another single room available! So, I am able to still live in the same apartment, just a different floor.

- My laptop is toast. I took it to Staples right after yesterday morning’s post in hopes that they could retreive everything on my hard drive. I told them the “most important” files that I wanted to make sure they got first just in case they weren’t able to get everything. I told them I wanted my “school documents”, “blog documents”, and “my pictures” for sure. They were able to retreive everything except my pictures. Only a few pictures were transferred over and then my laptop completely crashed :(

- I’m between apartments right now, so I spent another night at the hotel, but I think tonight I will be able to spend my first night in my new place!

- I only had one breakdown yesterday! I am taking this whole situation really well, actually. But in the midst of moving yesterday I realized how much stuff I have to move and felt really overwhelmed :( Trying to keep up with school, group projects, individual assignments, and exams is hard enough! A move just adds to the stress, so being the extremely lucky girl I am, my Mom is arriving in London in just a few short hours to rescue her girl :)

- I went to the Dr. yesterday just to get my bruises checked out. I fell pretty hard the night of the flood, so I thought it would be best to get a look over. My elbow has a nasty bruise, but is not broken or anything of the sort. My lower back is also bruised quite badly, so the Dr. was very concerned about my tailbone and pelvis, but after a few pokes and prods we concluded I am A-OK :)
To be honest, I think the majority of my lower body pain is actually DOMS, haha! On Monday morning I did a new leg workout and totally owned the gym ;) If you want guaranteed DOMS do the following and push hard:

Quad Focused Leg Workout (Phase 2 Weeks 7 – 8)

Narrow stance squats 2 x 12, 2 x 8
Narrow width leg presses 4 x 8
Step ups 4 x 8
Walking lunges 3 x 10
Bulgarian split squat 4 x 8
Calf raises 3 x 20
Leg extentions 3 x 10

- I have definitely learnt what a strong person I have become! This situation really sucks, but I’m keeping on keeping on ;)

Now, you all know me, I am one of those “look at the glass half full” type of people ;) So, now that you are updated on what’s been happening with me, let’s look at the positives that have come from the situation! Because there are a lot ;)

Finding the Positives
- I am moving up six floors in my apartment! What does this mean!? A better view, obviously! ;)

- Three very attractive guys came to help me move yesterday ;) So that kind of put a smile on my face :) Ok, not kind of, it totally put a smile on my face ;)

- I get a new laptop! I had the biggest HP laptop you could get your hands on; it was 17.5 inches! So, I wasn’t a fan of caring it to school every day any ways!

- My Mom is coming today :D So, I will be able to finally get a hug that I am longing for! No one has hugged me since the flood and I am in desperate need :( A girl needs to be comforted, you know?

- My Mom is coming today :D And my back is sore, so I am pretty sure I am going to request a massage ;) <3

- My Mom is coming today :D haha, ok, I think you get the point – I am pretty excited about my Mom’s arrival. I am actually off to the airport right now, so I should say good bye!

I feel really bad for falling behind on really all of your posts :( But trust me, I will catch up when time allows!

Love you all!

Meg
xoxoxoxo

Now that I am on the hunt for a new lap top, what do you recommend? MAC or PC? I was leaning toward a MAC, but the salesperson told me that “if I am not video editing or gaming it’s a waste of a lot of money.” Thoughts!? If you have a MAC, tell me what you use it for and why you love it (that is if you love your MAC, but I haven’t really heard anyone that dislikes their MAC?)

The days have been feeling like years lately. Has anyone else been feeling this way, too?

It’s WIAW! What was the best thing you ate today? I was so looking forward to WIAW this week, but wanted to write this recap post instead :( Hope you all don’t mind ;) You are going to have to wait a bit longer to see the yummies that I have been cooking up lately ;)

You poor girl! That happened to a friend of mine. Also, one time the pipes broke below my apt (onto my car!) and I had to leave for a few days. Big inconveniences all around :( I hope the apartment is paying for you’re hotel room at least!
I have a mac and I love it!!! I don’t play video games and only minimally edit photos but it’s so user friendly!! I never have to worry about viruses, etc. I’ve had mine for 3 yrs and it’s going strong. My husband was very anti-mac, but I converted him recently and now he loves his mac too :)

Still so impressed with your attitude! Keep it up :) moving up 6 floors sounds pretty awesome! Always love a better view.

As for the computer situation, I say Mac. I used to have a big, buly HP as well and I hated carrying it around everywhere. But with my Mac, it light and no problem to take with me anywhere. Macy’s battery is also wayyy better than my old HP. So overall, I’m in love with my MacBook Pro. Like I say, once you go Mac, you never go back ;)

I wish I were there to help and hug you!! But hey that’s pretty fun that three hot guys came to help move you!! Have you checked to see if the complex will reimburse you for your laptop? I’m not sure how that all works, but I feel like it’s totally not your fault, so someone else should pay for it! Does it not work that way?? I’m no help with computers.. I have a PC now, but feel like my next one will be a mac (I’ve always had a PC), but now everyone is getting mac’s… Who knows, but definitely post on what you do decide! And keep up that positive attitude, girly!!! xoxo

I’m so sorry all of this is happening what a disaster! Mom always makes things better though :)

I have a MAC that I’ve had for almost 7 years now and it’s just starting to have some issues. I love it though! They are expensive but they last and don’t get viruses. My boyfriend has the new Samsung computer that is super skinny and light, and I like that too :) I guess that wasn’t very helpful haha

Wow, I’m so glad everything is ok and that you’re looking at this with such positivity! You are such a strong girl love! I have a MAC and absolutely love it! I also don’t use it for gaming or video editing haha. My family has just had an enormous amount of issues with every PC we’ve owned so that’s why I finally switched, and it was totally worth it!

I am so glad that your Mum is coming to save the day! Mums are so good at that. Definitely the upside of the situation :)

As for laptops, I also had a giant HP before I got my WONDERFUL Macbook Air (11″). I love love love it. It is SO portable, and I prefer the Mac operating system in general. I also have an iPhone so I love how everything syncs to my computer and vice versa. If you have an iPhone too that is seriously enough reason to get a Macbook to match!! No more loading pics, calendar appts, contacts, etc.

Enjoy the time with your Mum!! xo

I hope you have a wonderful time with your mom and get a chance to just have some down time with her! :) The days while I am at work usually feel like years but my days off seem like they fly! lol.

Gah! I was so sorry to hear about your flood ordeal! What a bummer. You handled it like a champ though.

I use a Mac, but I don’t necessarily think its inherently a better computer than a PC. I prefer the way it works and looks, but it has its problems too for sure. If you are on a budget, pick a PC! I also picked an Android over an iPhone, so I’m not a diehard Mac person obviously :)

Wow that really was a serious flood to do that much damage. I had that same enormous HP! SO heavy! I just recently got a Toshiba and I love it. I hear you’re getting a mac so that will probably be good for all your school and blog stuff. That’s great your mom is coming to get you all set up again. Maybe she’ll make you that guac too ;)

OH MEG! I WANT TO HUG YOU–but not too hard because it might hurt. Do you need help?!

GET A MAC. I just converted and I would NEVER go back to a PC.

Yay for mother daughter time!

And all I can think of is that theme song from the Cosby’s…”movin’ on upppp” :)

Ohhhhh I want to give you a huge hug! I’m so glad your mama is coming to help you. I’m so sorry your photos weren’t able to be saved :-(

That is pretty cool that you can move to another apartment in your building, though.

Meg March 28, 2012 at 11:39 PM

Man, that is a pretty rough situation! I wish I could come help you move all your stuff and get you to laugh about it. :) And three good looking guys helping you out? talk about silver lining!! <3

In my humble opinion, that sales guy is an IDIOT.

MAC all the way! They are so much more user friendly, plus if you ever have a problem you just make an appointment at the apple store and they fix it right there for you! That is one of the biggest reasons I like mac, they also have free file backup available (at least I think it's free) and are SO helpful anytime you have questions. I LOVE mine and my husband loves mine so much he got one for himself! He went through 3 laptops in 3 years before switching to mac. Definitely worth every penny!!

I had the 17.5″ HP too when I went to school!!!!!! The fan broke and made a TON of noise and I hated carrying it places because it was obnoxious, heavy, and loud!

I replaced it with a MAC and I LOVVEEE it. 1) It’s super duper user friendly and easy to navigate 2) the battery life has been great for me 3) I’ve had NO problems with it at all 4) they’re all light weight and portable 5) it has this really really nifty option where you can have multiple DESKTOPS open at once so you dont get too cluttered…… I could list many more. LOL

Ohhh Meg I still can’t believe that this has happened to you..But I really admire and love how positive you are being!! I’m really sorry about your laptop, but you’re right that now at least you get to get a new one!! And I’m sorry that you have to deal with the stress of moving…Ugh…BUT maybe you’ll like your new place even better? As for the computer, I have a Mac and I love it and I do NO gaming or video editing, etc. I love it because I’ve had it for 3 years now and it still hasn’t slowed down (I’m pretty sure every PC I owned became extremely slow and difficult after about 6 months), and I have never had ANY problems with it. Functionally, I love it much much more than any PC and some of the special features are just super fun to play with! Feel better hun :)

Best of luck, Meg! Keep us posted!

Do not stress at all about not posting! You’re going through a lot right now, and just take your time and get this mess sorted out with! It’s so great you can look at the positives! Wishing you lots of love and so glad your mom will be there to help out! Let us know how it goes <3 love uuu

Sorry to hear about such a tough situation. Glad you are ok and dealing with it well :) Having your Mum with you will definitely lift your spirits! Its nice to feel taken care of.

Days seems to be going fast for me. I am looking for a job here in New York but I feel like time is passing quickly. I guess I just have to keep looking and be patient.

Best thing I ate today was frozen yogurt :)

So glad you’re doing okay Meg!!!! I wish I could help! but I don’t think I can compete with THREE hot guys hahahaha I’d be all over that too! :-P Moving is definitely stressful, especially when you’re tired, bruised, and have school, BUT you’re right there are so many positives here! I think getting a whole new apartment is really exciting actually – its an opportunity to re-decorate & rearrange if you want (I always love doing that, so I get excited about every time I move haha). And NEW MAC!!!! YAY! I got my first Mac laptop before college, and I’ve had to get a new one since (water damage wooo), but omg I love them. I will never ever go back to PC! I guard my mac with my life so nothing happens to it haha. So glad your mom’s coming too! Although I can’t believe no one’s given you a hug yet, GEEZ!! You should’ve asked those boys lol! :-P

Hang in there girl! Remember what LIFE is all about. It’s not suppose to be stressful or crazy!! Love everything you do and keep doing it because it’s what you want. Which seems to be the way your doing it. ;)

Have fun with your new macbook!! It’s amazing!!!! :)

Aww I still feel so awful for you :( :( :(

It’s great that your Mom is there to help you though. It would have been a lot to deal with on your own.

I have a Mac and it’s great. Like they say, once you go Mac you never go back! Haha. And I most definitely am not a gamer or editing videos. I actually found it super complicated to edit my wedding video!

Despite it all, you’re still positive- great outlook chica! So sorry that your apartment was “totaled” but that’s great news about another apartment being available in your building…

MAC ALL THE WAYYY! I have had 2 Mac’s, MacBook in college and now a MacBook Pro and have loved both of them! I seriously have never had a problem [other than my hard drive crashing but that can happen with any PC too]. I never get viruses, my programs work well, it’s fast, and it’s super convenient to transport :) I have a PC laptop at work and think it’s a piece of poo. There seems to always be a problem- keyboard buttons pop off, the mouse pad doesn’t work, programs suddenly crash… And it’s a new computer too!

the salesperson obviously doesn’t own a mac. yes they’re expensive. why? because they’re that good. i also have a dell laptop and it’s incredibly slow. my macbook is older than it and it runs way better.

i also love the integration between all apple products. and their design is amazing.

i’m also writing this while sitting next to my iphone and ipad so i’m a bit biased.

Oh darling, what an exciting new chapter in your life!! What girl wouldn’t love cute boys helping her move??

As for the MAC vs PC thing, I am a MAC gal…Have been since I was able to afford to buy my very own computer.

That being said, I don’t use it to NEAR it’s capacity but I take comfort in knowing I cannot get a virus (until they find a way to make virus’ for macs that is). I love how easy and user friendly it is…

I work on a PC all day and it just feels so…Dated…

My opinions probably won’t give you any definite answers but I will never go back to a PC.
