Big Tease

by Meg on July 16, 2012

How can I be so cruel?

Keeping such a delicious recipe from you seems so mean to me! I cannot tease you any longer ;)

Today’s Meatless Monday recipe was inspired by a meal Heather ordered when dining out at a restaurant one evening. She ordered a sesame crested tofu dish that I thought looked good enough to devour right through my laptop screen.

I adore sesame crusted tuna, so I thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit and recreate Heather’s restaurant meal.

Heather’s tofu was served over a bed of wilted greens, but I chose to serve my tofu over wilted spinach and a mix of bulgur and red quinoa.

I wanted to add a Japanese twist to the dish as well (because you all know how much I like my sushi!), so I added a favourite of mine - pickled ginger.

Sesame Crusted Tofu

1 block tofu

1/4 cup soy sauce

black sesame seeds

toasted white sesame seeds

olive oil

Pour soy sauce and tofu into marinading dish. Allow tofu to marinate for at least 30 minutes before cooking. Once the tofu is ready, heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Meanwhile, coat tofu with sesame seeds by pressing tofu pieces into a layer of sesame seeds which have been put on a plate. Once coated, pan sear the tofu until crisp on both sides. Remove from heat and enjoy.

I loved the flavour combinations in this meal. Toasted sesame seeds, soy sauce marinated tofu, tender bulgur and quinoa, sweet baby spinach, and spicy pickled ginger <3

I don’t think it could have turned out better!

I would definitely serve this dish to company as it not only tastes amazing, but it looks elegant too!

I am really proud of myself for making this recipe as I “pinned” it to Pinterest a while ago and planned on “recreating” it in the near future! I love putting pins to use! :)

Do you eat the pickled ginger at Japanese restaurants? I eat the portion they give me plus  ;) If Chelsea would let me steal from her plate I would… hehe!

Are you having a meatless meal today?

Do you use your pins on Pinterest or do you forget about them?

Have a great evening friends! Let me know if you like the recipe :)

Meg
