Have you ever experienced food heaven?
If you're a foodie like myself you probably have, but if you haven't let me briefly explain what food heaven is…
To me, food heaven is when I taste something so incredible that I can hardly speak. It is almost as if the flavours steal my own voice away from me.
Food heaven is a lovely place to be and an even better moment to relish in. It is a moment in which I am entirely encapsulated in the present situation; simply enjoying whatever may be in my mouth at that time.
I'm not entirely sure what thoughts are running through my head when I go to food heaven. I am lost in the moment, but yet still very present. Present in a way that I can barely describe. The amazing flavours in my mouth is all I can think of when I am in food heaven and "mmmmm" is basically the only noise I am able to make. No words - just noise.
Lucky me, I have been in food heaven three times today; three glorious and very memorable times.
It all started with lunch at Tory Row.
I only had to read over their menu once and I knew it was the perfect place to have lunch. They offered a salad made of raw and grilled kale, ground almonds, and red onions which instantly caught my attention. To make this heavenly salad a meal, I ordered a grilled chicken breast to top it off. The waiter informed me that this was his favourite thing to order from the entire menu (including the addition of chicken!)
The picture does not do the salad any justice, so allow me to explain how amazing it actually was…
The mix of grilled and raw kale was unreal. You all know my love for kale and my recent obsession with grilled kale, so I knew this salad would be right up my alley, but the two textures combined is even more incredible! Who knew that was even possible?
The ground almonds added the perfect crunch to the salad and the thinly sliced rings of red onion were the only other vegetable that this salad needed because it was perfect just the way it was.
The best part of this salad was the dressing, though. It was a caesar-like dressing, but it was so light and smooth that it took me to food heaven the moment it touched my lips. I usually order dressing on the side, but I am so glad that I didn't make that request today. The dressing was so good in fact that I actually told my waiter that I wanted to lick the plate
Little does he know I scraped my fork against that poor little plate over and over again until there were no remains of the dressing whatsoever
That was food heaven experience number one. I experienced food heaven for the second time at dinner when we dined at Market by Jean Georges.
After reading the menu over and over again, I ordered the striped bass sauteed in olive oil along with grilled asparagus with olive oil and lemon.
The striped bass couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. The outer flesh was crisp from being sauteed in the pan while the inside was tender and very delicate. It flaked like little pieces of fish love <3
The grilled asparagus were also perfect. Grilled, just the way I like them – still slightly crunchy.
The meal was amazing and the service was incredible at both Tory Row and Market. I will most definitely be back!
My night ended on a sweet note with a bunch of new friends!
Myself and 20-some other bloggers who will be attending the Healthy Living Summit met up for fro yo tonight. It was my first time ever having fro yo from Pinkberry's and I can honestly say that it is the best fro yo I have ever tasted. I ordered the original flavoured fro yo which is described to be "sweet and tart", but to me it was pure perfection. Not too sweet and not too tart. Just right. Perfect. I topped my perfectly flavoured fro yo with toasted almond slices which made it even more perfect.
Toasted almonds and a slightly sweet mountain of fro yo brought me to food heaven for the third time today and I enjoyed every moment of it.
Despite the fact that I went to food heaven three times in a single day, I think this day was made even more memorable and perfect because today I realized how truly incredible my life is. Of course I always knew I had an amazing life and I thank God every single day for it, but today I realized so many things that truly made this day remarkable. I think I will have to write another post explaining exactly why today was as remarkable as I say it was, but for now I want to say that I am so proud of myself because I am living and loving every moment of my life.
See you tomorrow with a High Five Friday post!
Love always,
Meg

YES MEGAN! You nailed the food heaven thing! We went there a couple of times yesterday ourselves
Neither of us can say exactly what brings us to food heaven, I guess just when the flavours and textures and colours and everything just come together perfectly!

I had sea bass for dinner last night! It is my favorite!!! And to top it off with fro yo afterwards? Definitely sounds like Heaven to me.
