Good evening friends!
Today's post is comin' at ya a little lot later than usual because today has been a very productive day on my end! I woke up around 6:30, had a delicious breakfast, and then headed out the door to volunteer! I am currently volunteering for the Registered Dietitian in my city, so she has me going to all of the grocery stores within Yorkton and recording all of their gluten free products so we can make a Gluten Free Product Guide for our health region to use.
I did this project two years ago, but there are so many new gluten free products on the market now that I need to update the first book I made! I only have one grocery store left to visit, so that will be my project tomorrow!
Now that you're updated on my life, let me do my last presentation recap from the Healthy Living Summit!
The last presentation I attended was done by my lovely friend Heather Montgomery from Running with Sass.
Heather's awesome and so was her presentation! It was all about social media and keeping up with the ever evolving online trends! This is a topic I was really interested in and Heather did a wonderful job at covering all of the important information!
If you're a blogger or wanting to start a blog, you should probably have the following:
- Facebook fan page
- Twitter account for your blog
Facebook fan page
Your Facebook fan page's "about me" section should be filled out as much as possible. For an example, it should have links to your Twitter account, blog, email address, etc. Make it easy for people to connect with you!
Heather also mentioned some great tools that Facebook offers:
- Hike tab builder (this app allows you to see what your visitors/fans are most interested in on your page, the age demographic of your visitors/fans, etc.)
- Facebook insights (this tool helps you understand and analyze the trends of your users)
- Pages app (an app for your phone which allows you to easily access your Facebook fan page)
I had no idea about these apps and tools, so this was very beneficial to me!
Twitter account
Heather mentioned that it is important for your Twitter username to be your blog name or similar to your blog name. This makes things less confusing for your readers!
Another thing that Heather mentioned that involved both Facebook and Twitter is the option of auto posting your post URL to Facebook and Twitter. When you publish a post from your blog, this feature will tweet about your new post and post the link on your Facebook page! This is very clever as it saves you time! And who doesn't like a little bit more time on their hands?
During Heather's presentation she also touched on the topic of your posts' title! Heather said that you want to use a post that will draw your audience in! I've definitely used this trick in the past when I've shared recipes! People always want to see gorgeous pictures of food
Especially foodie people like most of us here…
For an example, if I wanted to draw Heather into read one of my posts about eggs I would title it "Yolk Porn" or something along those lines
Ok, she might come running if I mentioned broccoli, too…
And I'm pretty sure anything with the word "fish" or "seafood" would have Cait rushing over to read it
The title of your post is very important! I know mine have been kind of lame lately, "HLS Recap" or something similar to that, but it seems to me that you've been enjoying the information I've shared so far?
The last thing that I want to mention before I wrap up today's post is the growing trend of Instagram! I had no idea how amazing Instagram was until I got my iPhone and immediately installed the beloved app! Instagram is growing in popularity – it has 80 million users and will continue to grow. Personally, Instagram has allowed me to connect with bloggers and readers like never before! I follow many bloggers as well as my readers on Instagram and love being able to see what they're up to throughout the day! If you have a smartphone I highly recommend getting this app and Heather would recommend that, if you are a blogger, your username be similar to that of your blog
I better go now! My Mom needs my help in the kitchen
We are having company over for dinner!
Thanks for reading! <3
Tomorrow's post will be marvelous – I promise. It's Marvelous Monday and Meatless Monday and all
That means two posts ya know!?
Meg

I am super interested in this gluten free shopping list you have created, my celiac self would love to do something like that. Great post! I know I have lots to learn for my amateur blog.
Awww well if you want to chat I’m available, girl! LOVE YOU
sounds like a fun project!
It definitely is! I just finished it up today!
Meg I am so glad I found your blog-LOVE IT!
Awwww Steph <3 Thank you! Keep commenting! I love hearing from you <3
These are such great tips! I keep toying with the idea of starting a blog, and all these great HLS recaps are being filed away in case they’re needed in the future! I used to be a huge Facebook person, but I’ve gotten tired of the changes that keep happening. I would have to say Pinterest is my favorite media source (I love all those food and workout pics!), with Twitter coming in second.
Can’t wait for MIMM!
If you ever need help with kick starting your blog you know who to come to
Love ya girl
Another great post filled with amazing tips! I definitely need to start a Facebook page and Twitter profile for my blog- it seems like it would be a huuuge asset.
And I love that you’re volunteering to help with the gluten-free guide! That is such a great resource for everyone.
Have fun cooking with your momma! Can’t wait for your post tomorrow, as always. (:
xoxox
Ooooo YES YES FB fan page! I am your BIGGEST fan
LOVED Heather’s session! It really made me want to start a Facebook page, but not until I change my blog name first.
Also that project you’re doing for volunteering sounds like fun! Going to grocery stores all day sounds perfect for you haha. I’m so excited for our grocery dates back in London!
SO many grocery dates to come xo LOVE YOU
Thanks for the recap… it’s “almost” like I was there.
OK, I no it’s not… I wish I was there!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe next year :p
Next year for sure
I NEED TO MEET YOU
Yeah…. I suck at social media. I am in awe of how much you tweet!! I find it hard to remember to post one update per day, and as for replying to other tweets… I really struggle. It has seriously been a year since I decided to start a FB fan page, but I still haven’t done it. I swear I’m doing it next month, and I will come back to read this post
HAHA I remember you being shocked when I made my FB page! Get on it sis
Great post! I’m slightly twitter and instagram obsessed. Definitely my two favorites.
Those are my two favourites too
OMGGG I love my shoutout gorgeous! Look at me and that BEAUTIFUL yellowfin tuna. If only a smiling Meg was holding a plate right next to me.
I sure wish I was beside you WITH a plate! xo
Twitter and Instagram are my absolute favorite!
Bahaha! Maybe I should change the name of my blog to #yolkporn and broccoli!
LOVE IT!
