MIMM: 08/27

by Meg on August 27, 2012

Good morning lovies!

I feel absolutely marvelous today! I noticed myself going to bed later and later lately which resulted in me feeling not quite myself during the days, so last night I took a stance and made sure I did my body good and went to bed at 10:30!

During the school year, I like to go to bed around 10:00, but 10:30 is a start!

I had a lovely sleep and feel so rested today! I'm ready to take anything on ;)

I've already had a great chest and triceps workout which also included some core work at the end and now I'm home eating my post workout meal number two (chicken and sweet potato.) Soon, I will get going and finish some things that need to be done before I head back to London on Friday! But, for now, let me share with you some marvelous things because it is Marvelous Monday

The most marvelous day of the week ;)

Figs
Oh my goodness gracious! I think figs are the new love of my life! Chelsea always raves about them, but for some reason they just didn't appeal to me so I never bought them for myself to try before!

I mean really, what do you do with a fig?

Well, I can answer that for you now as I tried my first ever fig this weekend! (Ok, I had about 10 figs – they are amazing!)

I found out that I love figs on their own, on top of my hot cereal, and in smoothies!

Sadly, I finished my batch of figs today after making a fig mountain ontop of my breakfast cereal… This is truly an unfortunate situation since I need to create a recipe using figs for next week's Meatless Monday A – Z!

If anyone near me has a fig I would greatly appreciate your contribution ;)

Gogo Quinoa 4 Grains Hot Cereal

I tried this for the first time this morning. When I have quinoa flakes I usually have them alone, but this is a blend of quinoa flakes (gold and red), amaranth, buckwheat, and chia! I loved it! Especially with the figs ;)

Almond and Cashew Cream

This stuff is awesome! I usually only add almond milk to my coffee, but lately I have been using this instead! It's so thick and just slightly sweet, but it is sugar free! If you see this at your grocery store definitely give it a try! I like to add it to my coffee or pour it over my oats :)

Reebok Crossfit headband

I think I wore this ever single day since I came home from Boston #sorryimnotsorry

It kind of makes me feel like I can kick your butt if you messed with me ;)

Kabocha squash

Personally, I have a really hard time getting my hands on these bad boys, so when I saw it at the grocery store yesterday I couldn't resist! I am definitely going to try Tessa's favourite combo – kabocha and peanut butter ;)

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday! Or should I should say marvelous? I'll be back later with a recipe for meatless Monday! :)

Love always,

Meg
xoxo

How do you like to eat your kabocha squash?

Is there a piece of clothing or accessory that makes you feel tough? ;)

What is your favourite way to enjoy figs?

I’ve never tried a fig or kombucha squash! I think I need to get on that ASAP! I don’t know how I’ve been missing out for so long! I am in love with my CrossFit headband too! Such a great reminder of HLS!

I like to use figs or dates in the food processor with some raw nuts. Kind of make like a home-made Larabar.
I have a couple of tank tops that make me feel tough.
And PS love your nail polish!

I like fig halves with a small wedge of soft goat cheese on them (when I’m eating lactose, that is.)

That cream looks really useful. Thanks for pointing it out!

I’ve never tried figs either! In grocery stores I’ve only every noticed them dried.

My lifting gloves make me feel like a badass. When I wear them driving I feel like Ryan Gosling in Drive – and nobody would’ve messed with him. :-p

YAY! Your MIMM posts are always amazing, love.
I’m so glad that you liked the figs! You definitely need to try them frozen. And I’ve bought that almond & cashew cream a few times- I love it! It’s perfect for coffee. (:

Love you!

I have to confess that I have never tried figs or kabocha squash. I guess I should branch and try them soon. :-) My tank that says “Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat” makes me feel pretty tough!

Okay. I’ve never tried figs OR Kabocha squash. Am I missing out or what?! Figs are always so expensive, but maybe I will need to try them before they go out of season. As for the squash, I can never find it anywhere near me!

I’ve actually never tried Kabocha Squash but I just read about it on someone else’s blog too. I think I’ll keep an eye out for it next time I go shopping…oh, and I’ve only ever tried a real fig once before in my life, I know right! This girl’s been missing out. That almond/cashew cream sure sounds yummy, as does the 4 Grain Cereal. YUM!

Kabocha and coconut butter!! Its a must! I think I eat that at least 3 times a week ha ha. Its a huge obsession! I’ve still never had figs…guess that needs to change!

Kabocha with EVERYTHING is good! I am always on the hunt to find them too, it seems like a lot of places will carry butternut/acorn/spaghetti squash but it is lucky when you find a kabocha!

I love everything in this post (except for the almond and cashew cream… obviously)! I’m so happy you tried figs and love them! My favourite way to eat them is on pizza, as you already know. ;) And I actually have that 4 grain quinoa cereal and love it too! As for kabocha squash… serious obsession over here. I love just roasting it up with some olive oil and salt and eating it like that. It has so much flavour on it’s own that it doesn’t need much else!
