I should have taken a picture of myself yesterday morning when I came home from class because I was on cloud 9 – it was such a j'adore la vie moment
As of yesterday, I finally got a taste of each one of my courses that I will be taking this term and I love them all. I am completely and utterly in love with my program, my degree, and all that it entails. Each one of my classes brings me so much excitement and I have an indescribable amount of passion for each course that I am enrolled in this year!
Since my studies are such an important part of my life, I would love to tell you more about the classes that I am taking and what my schedule will look like this term!
Monday
Monday is one of my longer days on campus as I have two classes back to back this day which adds up to 6 hours of lecture time. I begin at 8:30 am and finish at 2:30 am.
My first class is Food Production Management II. I took Food Production Management I last year and enjoyed it, so I thought I would also enjoy the next level as it builds on what we learnt last year. The second level of this course emphasizes of managerial decision making relevant to financial management of a foodservice system. I will also be given a practicum for an opportunity to apply the concepts we learn in class to a real life foodservice system such as a cafeteria in a school, long term care home, etc. I haven't found out where my practicum will be yet, but I will be finding out soon so I am excited about that!
My second class of the day is Research Methodology. This class is quite different from the classes I've taken before, but I think it's going to be very interesting and quite fun because we will be learning about the components of research while developing our own research purposals! Research is the area of dietetics that I know the least about, so I am excited to expand my knowledge on the subject matter as I am interested in doing a research-streamed masters program in the future
Even though I will be done class by 2:30 on Monday's, I think I will spend the entire day on campus every second Monday as I have SHEA meetings every second Monday at 3:30. These meetings will last approximately an hour, so I will be able to get home in time for dinner
I do not have class on Tuesday, which brings us to…
Wednesday
Once again, I begin class at 8:30 am. At this time, I will be attending a lecture for a course called Selected Topics in Community Nutrition. Last year, I took Community Nutrition and this course builds on the topics covered in that. One of my favourite professors teaches this course, so I think this is going to be my favourite of them all! She has such a passion for research and implementing programs into the community (particularly exercise-based programs) which gets me so excited – I seriously couldn't stop smiling while I was in class yesterday
This course also includes a practicum for us to gain practical experience. My practicum will involve me having to develop a nutrition curriculum for the Brescia University College GirlsLead camps. The cirriculum that I am to develop, along with 5 other classmates, will include interactive activities aimed at discussing key nutrition issues in girls 9 – 12 years old and the development of a recipe book (!!)
I would say that this practicum is very fitting for yours truly
Thursday
Just like the previous days when I have class, I will begin at 8:30 am. Thursday mornings involve the lab portion of my Monday morning class – Food Production Management II.
I have quite a long break after my morning class, so I will go home at this time until my next class which is at 4:30.
At 4:30, I have Clinical Nutrition II which builds on the Clinical Nutrition I course that I took last year. It is going to be the toughest course that I have this semester as it has the largest volume of information. We learn about different types of diseases and the metabolic and physiological alterations that come along with them. Further more, we will learn how to modify one's diet for such diseases for therapeautic purposes.
Friday
I don't have classes on Friday's either, so I get a long weekend every weekend
I'm sure it won't be all fun and games though as I already have quite a bit of homework to do despite only having completed one week of school so far! But, I'm sure Chelsea and I will continue our dinner date ritual each weekend
Some times usually we go out for dinner twice/weekend – one sushi date and one new-to-us restaurant
According to what I've told you above, I should have class in one hour, but labs don't start until next week (yay!), so my Mom and I are going to make our way to the gym soon to get our sweat on
I'm planning on doing a back workout today. After the gym, my Mom and I will go to the mall since we haven't been there yet this summer! *gasp* I don't plan on doing any shopping for clothes, but I wouldn't be surprised if I grabbed a few new teas from David to add to my collection
Have a great day, friends! Please do not forget about High Five Friday tomorrow! I'm looking forward to your submissions today! All you need to do is:
email me at adashofmeg@gmail.com with your name, high five description, picture (optional), and blog URL if you have one! Easy peasy
Love you!
Meg

Research Methodology sounds neat.. At first I thought anything research sounded horrible but then when I read it was in the area of dietics I thought it sounded pretty cool!
OKAY. I can just FEEL your excitement through this post, Meg! I LOVE IT!!! You are so passionate about the nutrition field and I seriously can’t wait to see the places your degree will take you. Anytime you feel overwhelmed or stressed out, CALL ME! I know EXACTLY what you’re going through! I love you so much! xoxo
Your classes sound amazing, love! So happy you like them all
I sent you my high five submission this morning. Have fun hanging with your mom today!!! Love you.
Love that you’re so excited about this year! Makes me miss school so much!
This makes me miss classes, so strange I know my nerdy self and all. I am glad you are already excited for your classes, what a great sign. And so jealous about the constant dinner date!
I love your practicum! I would enjoy that so much and I’m sure you will just love it! I actually miss being back in school! I loved college because I was actually learning about topics I was interested in! I didn’t want to graduate from my Master’s program because I loved learning all the nutrition information! Now I can relive my program through you
Is David’s tea good cuz I have only found one tea in my life that I’ve enjoyed and that’s celestial apple cinnamon cuz its strong and sweet. Any recommendations for teas?:) thanks!
haha, oh my goodness. Is davidstea good!? IT’S MY FAVOURITE. Are you in Canada? Or is there any stores near you? If not, you can order off their website. You can check my “tea” page for some tea reviews. I will be doing another tea review this week of their fall collection. If you have any specific brands you have access to near you I can see if I can get my hands on some and tell you what I’d recommend
But overall, DAVIDsTEA is my fav
So glad you’re going to love your classes. It’s a great thing to have a passion for what you’re studying…I wish I could do it all over again! xoxo
I love that you love what you’re doing in school! You are off to a great start!! I cant wait to continue reading about your school year:) <3
ps – just about to send my submission for high five friday:)
You are so lucky to have Tuesdays off! AND Fridays! I would say that all your classes sound interesting. I always loved the first weeks of college… until papers and exams started happening. LOL
Aww this post made me miss college… a little.
Your classes sound really interesting. I miss uni
I LOVE how genuine your excitement is! I feel like you’re right here in the room with me exuding all this positive energy. I’m so glad you’ve found something you love and are incredibly passionate about. Happy Thursday babe!
love you!
It’s crazy how different our nutrition degree course can be depending on the school you attend!! I took Research Methods in the summer, but a psych equivalent just to get it out of the way before the baby comes (otherwise I would have been taking the nutrition version of it this semester!). I don’t have clinical nutrition until next year, but I’m only taking 3 courses this semester:
1) Economics of Food Usage
2) Control Systems in the Hospitality Industry
3) Fundamentals of Nutrition
Luckily 2 are DE and the 3rd I only go for an hour and twenty minutes on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. That’s awesome that you have 2 days off a week – that was me all last year too and I loved it!! Happy long weekend girl
Have a fantastic year Meg!
We couldn’t be more proud of you!
Love,
Mom and Dad <3
XOXOXOXOXOX
Your University sounds AWESOME!! You seem to be really in your element with your career path love. That is so awesome! I myself am still going back and forth in my degree choices so kudos to you! I wish you all the best, and keep up the hard work
How fun!! I am super jealous of your classes!! I wish I could go back and get a degree in nutrition!
I’m so glad you are liking the new semester! And I have no doubt you will thrive in all of those classes. Good luck with them love!! P.S. can I be the third wheel on your sushi dates?!? hehe.
sounds like you got a great list of classes this semester. glad you are already enjoying them
Glad you’re enjoying your classes already!
I have Fridays off too – it’s so nice, isn’t it?
this post is making me wish I could go back to school! Everything sounds interesting, except research methods, i had to take that class and struggled with it!
I LOVED getting a peek into your daily routine, sis! It makes me so happy to know that you’re so happy! All of your classes sound wonderful–especially Community Nutrition (can I help develop that recipe book?!
) and Food Production Management (can’t wait to hear where you’re placed!). Reading this makes me want to come visit you even more! Does Brescia allow visitors in classrooms? Many of my grad classes have been similar…I took Research Methodology last spring, and have taken Clinical Nutrition and Community Nutrition classes. This semester I’m taking Nutrition Education Methods (my favorite!), Critical Issues and Applied Human Physiology and Testing (it’s like a personal training certification course). I’m ready to be done with school, but know that I’ll miss it as well!
I sure wish I could join you and Chelsea for a dinner date this weekend! I love that you two have that tradition. xoxo <3
