WIAW: Dinnfast

My love for whipped cottage cheese mixed with quinoa is no joke.

I could eat it every day all day, but as enticing as that is… I like variety. So, I eat it every day, but not all day.

I usually eat my favourite meal of the day half way through the day, for lunch, just so I don’t miss it too much as I would if I ate it for breakfast.

So, what have I been having for breakfast lately?

Dinnfast!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Brinner, breakfast at dinner time, and who doesn’t like Brinner!? Cereal with cold milk, eggs and toast, etc. Let’s face it, Brinner is amazing!

But have you tried Dinnfast, dinner at breakfast time, before?

As a girl who prefers savoury to sweet, I’ve really been enjoying having a more dinner-type of meal at breakfast time! It’s a change from my regular eggs and oats, which I love because I’m all about variety! ;)

Here are some of the Dinnfast’s I’ve been enjoying lately for today’s What I Ate Wednesday!

Grilled tilapia, brown rice, oats, lentils, and steamed broccoli drizzled with olive oil.

Tilapia, brown rice, oats, lentils, spinach, and tomatoes drizzled with walnut oil.

Chicken, brown rice, oats, lentils, and broccoli, drizzled with walnut oil.

Homemade meatballs, brown rice, oats, lentils, arugula, and red onion.

Chicken, butternut squash, arugula, walnut oil, and dijon mustard.

And this mornings mix is chicken, brown rice, lentils, flaxseed, arugula, and mushrooms drizzled with avocado oil. 

I’m not sure how long this dinner-for-breakfast phase will last, but I’m loving it right now :)

I love dinnfast or brinner! Dinnfast: Eggfrittata with tomatoes&spinach, Brinner: Protein pancakes. YUMM! These homemade meatballs look so good, did you share the recipe before? Happy WIAW!!

Oh yes!!!!! Pancakes for dinner are theeee best!

I just quickly made the meatballs! No recipe, but this is basically what I did:

- ground turkey
- red onion
- italian spices
- minced garlic

all formed into meatballs and baked until fully cooked! :) so easy peasy!

I totally thought of you this morning when I made my breakfast quesadilla – still egg-based, but savory flavors! It’s fin to shake it up… but I don’t know about seafood so early in the morning… LOL! :)

I love that you had dinner for breakfast. I usually crave breakfasty things at breakfast time. I think once I had eggplant parm for breakfast but it was like almost noon so I am not sure if that even counts.

So you just whip up some cottage cheese and pour it on cooked quinoa – no other ingredients?

I love me some dinfast :) Actually, I eat leftovers for breakfast all the time…not so sure I could do fish at breakfast, though ;-)

Hahaha, you and Nick would be perfect breakfast eaters together. He eats chips and guac, or soup right out of the can! I sometimes eat fruit and yogurt for dinner, so technically I eat dinner for breakfast all the time! ;) <3 <3

Sis, I love your love for dinnfast! I’ve actually always preferred savory breakfasts, although lately I’ve been waking up with sweet cravings. It’s funny how our tastes can change from week to week or month to month, isn’t it?

I’ve never tried eating meat for breakfast, but those homemade meatballs are calling my name!! I think I could definitely roll with that plate of deliciousness each morning. The chicken, butternut squash, arugula and walnut oil bowl looks incredible, too! Sis, I need to come live with you. Maybe we can cook for each other?

It is funny how it changes! I remember this summer all I had was pancakes every single morning and now it’s been ages since I’ve actually intentionally made pancakes!

And YES you totally need to live with me ;) Sounds like a plan!

I have a raging sweet tooth in the morning. The idea of eating dinner at breakfast actually makes me cringe haha I’d rather eat sweets for all of my meals than savory for one of them! But I loveeee eating breakfast for dinner :)

I usually have oatmeal with peanut butter and egg whites for breakfast, but I wouldn’t mind trying dinnfast!!

I LOVE your idea of mixing brown rice and oats as a side dish!! I find brown rice too dry and bland on its own, but I tried mixing it with oatmeal and I loved the combination!! so thanks for giving me such a good idea!

I love breakfast for dinner! My favorite has to be kabocha pancakes slathered with coconut oil and almond butter!! I’m certainly not opposed to having meat for dinner- I have turkey and or chicken in my omelets every day!! Your meals look awesome my gorgeous friend!!!

I had a big bowl of creamy greek yogurt! It was divine. I don’t think I could ever do dinner for breakfast like you do! I crave my sweeter breakfast. :)

I SO am not a dinner for breakfast gal! I need to have sweet for breakfast!!!

I LOVE eggs for dinner! Scrambled, sunnyside, etc it doesn’t matter!!! I also LOVE pancakes or french toast for dinner…Oh who am I kidding? I love pancakes and french toast all the time ;)

I have never had dinnfast!! I love eggs for breakfast, and I used to only think of them as a lunch or dinner meal. Does that count? ;)

Gah, I’m envious of your savoury teeth! I like the sweet stuff too much.
Seeing all your yummy, savoury eats helps though!

Oh Meg, I made your chicken muffins for the SECOND time yesterday…yeah, I’m pretty much in love with them :). I think they are definitely going to become a staple around here. So flavourful ,with the sweet potato , & my fave herb (dill!), and the oats give such a good texture. Yup- OBSESSED.
