I can’t believe it’s already day 21 of the IE Challenge.
Unfortunately, there are only 21 days of the challenge, so today is the last day. But, instead of being gloomy as I read Jamie’s last morning email to me, I decided to focus on all that I’ve gained over the past 21 days.
I’ve learnt so much about myself and I’ve never felt more in tune with my body. It’s such a beautiful thing.
Earlier this week, Clare wrote a post about the 5 things she’s learnt throughout the IE Challenge and I thought it was a neat idea, so I’m going to do the same today
So, here are 5 things I’ve learnt throughout the 21 days of the IE Challenge!
1. It’s ok not to eat the minute after waking up.
I had a “rule” that I had to eat right after waking up. This rule applied even if I wasn’t hungry whatsoever. IE taught me that it is ok to wait until I am hungry to eat my breakfast.
2. It’s ok to snack and not consider it a “meal”.
I used to eat every three hours and if I got hungry before three hours, I had a really hard time allowing myself to snack. It seemed abnormal to me, so I would either force myself to wait until that third hour or I would eat and readjust my eating schedule accordingly so everything was three hours apart.
Things have changed now, though. Since the IE Challenge, I’ve learnt that it’s ok to allow myself to snack if I’m hungry. I don’t have to have a full meal. Instead, I can snack on some fruit or fruit and nut butter or anything that I want! Yesterday I was a little hungry midmorning, so I had a nectarine dunked in cashew butter. It tasted like heaven.
3. Food tastes better when you eat when you’re hungry.
I was doing a lot of force feeding when I ate every three hours, so the majority of the time eating felt like a chore to me. Personally, I rather enjoy my food. Eating no longer feels like a chore to me thanks to the IE Challenge.
4. When I allow myself to eat whatever I want, whenever I want, I eat a lot of fruit.
That would be my “OMG this is so delicious” face
5. When you allow yourself to listen to and trust your body, it will provide you with what you need.
This is probably the most amazing and most important lesson I learnt throughout the challenge. So important that I will devote an entire post to this one lesson
You’re just going to have to wait until next week, though
Of course I’ve learnt more than just 5 things throughout the IE Challenge. In fact, I’m pretty sure I could write an entire novel about all that I have learnt over the past 21 days, but we’ll save all of those other things for a later date. Many more IE related posts to come!
And who knows, maybe a novel will come in the future
A little bird keeps bugging me to write one…
Have a great day, lovies! I’m off to train shoulders and biceps at the gym soon and then have homework to do for the rest of the afternoon, but I will be back to give thanks on this Thankful Thursday!
So, I’ll see you later <3
Don’t forget to submit your high fives, though! Tomorrow is HFF!

So proud of you!
The “OMG this is so good” pic just made my day. You rule, Meg and I too am so sorry to see the end of the IE posts:(
HAHAHAHAHAHA! So happy you liked that pic
of course YOU appreciated that
LOL!
BUTTTTTT more IE posts are still coming! The challenge is the only thing that’s ending
No need to be sad
Although there are many differences in the challenges we both are facing, there are also SO many similarities. I love reading everything you have to say, because you express lots of my own thoughts, or let me see certain things from a different angle not QUITE my own.
And even if your IE Challenge is “over” it is a journey, not a destination, right?
SO TRUE
Such a great post, Meg. I’m so proud of you for FULLY giving the last 21 days your completely effort and taking each day in stride. You’ve come such a long way since the first day we chatted on the phone. You’re an inspiration to so many people and I feel very lucky to have been able to work with you these last few weeks. Much love my dear!!
XO.
I really did commit my FULL self to the challenge, but I couldn’t have done it without you
I have been especially appreciative of your IE challenge updates. So much so that I signed up last week. I’m very much looking forward to repairing my relationship with food. Thanks for offering up the details about your challenge!
KRISTIN! That’s amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of you!
Love it! Good luck with your training today.
I can’t believe the challenge is over already for you! It seems like you’ve come so far, that’s pretty amazing!
Love that cashew butter of course
I’m glad you’ve learned so much about yourself and what you’re truly craving and have stopped some of those “rules”. Sounds like something everyone (including myself) would benefit from.
EVERY TIME I have cashew butter I think of you lol. No joke!
Great post. It is so true how we can get so habitual about eating when we are meant to rather than when we are actually hungry. This especially rang true for me with breakfast and that you ‘should’ eat it upon waiting. Looking forward to your next post on this but once again well done
yay thanks Jan
you’ve been so supportive <3 can’t wait to share more with you!!
I love that you compared the before and after. It’s great that you learned so much through this experience and can move forward doing what is best for your body because you’ve listened to it properly. Good for you, Meg! I spy a #HFF topic…?
hahahahaha! thanks babe!
You definitely earn a HIGH FIVE this week.. and I hope you recognize that
I am proud of you, Meg!
Wow thanks Haley! Love you so much xo
Hi Meg, I was wondering how you make your eggs? They look perfect and really round <(that sounds weird but i hope you know what i mean). Thanks in advance!
I actually have a vlog about how I make my eggs hahahahaha every one always tells me they look so perfect!? http://adashofmeg.com/2012/07/26/breakfast-with-meg-a-how-to-vlog-on-how-i-fry-my-eggs/
It has been such a pleasure to follow along on your intuitive eating challenge. You’ve made so much progress!
Thanks sweetie!!!!!!
I have really enjoyed reading your IE posts. You have been such an inspiration to me as I am currently trying to gain healthy weight and have been tracking calories and protein to make sure I am getting enough. I realized I have started becoming obsessive about it and it’s becoming very stressful. I am still trying to stop but you have given me a lot of motivation to eat more intuitively and I am hoping to succeed in this. Can’t wait to read more of your IE related posts!
I am so proud of you girl! Keep me updated on how it goes! Trust me, it’s so much better when you DON’T track! YOU KNOW how much you need to get x amount, right? And who says you need x amount anyways? Give your body what it’s asking for
You have come such a long way in 3 weeks Meg! And man oh man do i know what you mean by ‘food tastes better when you’re hungry’.
Can’t wait to hear more about your IE journey, as I’m sure it will continue, even now after the challenge has stopped. xo
I really can’t believe how far I’ve came…. it’s kind of crazy, but that’s for noticing
You are the reason I am doing this challenge in april and I am so excited. I have been a fruit fiend as of lately too. And I’m loving it. I have a feeling it is partly due to me being ready for spring weather. I’ve been craving mangos and berry non stop. And I ate the best plum today.
I am most excited to hopefully learn how to listen to my body and know what I am craving. I’m sick of eating things I think I want and then not being satisfied.
SO CRAZY PROUD OF YOU FOR DOING THE CHALLENGE! YOU HAAAAAAVE to keep me updated on your journey, k?? <3
I bought plums yesterday! I will think of you when I eat it
Great Job! Have a good workout today!!!
XOXOX
Aw thanks Ana
xo
snacking is my liiiife haha I’m glad you discovered the joys of it
Love this! And LOVE your “omg this is good” face…mine is pretty much the exact same! Lol
I’ve never eaten when I wasn’t hungry, but I have a bad habit of not taking notice of satiety cues and eating too much for a snack/meal because I “think” I have to have certain things every time I eat…protein, carb, healthy fat. If I’ve learned anything in my little “experiments” with intuitive eating over the past couple of weeks, its that you do NOT have to have ALL three in a meal to feel satisfied…not every meal has to be balanced! I mean heck, you’ve got the whole day to do that, right?
BAHA! So happy you love that face
it’s so genuine! It was seriously SO amazing!
I love that you learned so much!!! I can’t eat when I first wake up. I’m just not hungry. I wait until I am now. Before, like you, I would force feed myself!
Great job!! I love reading about your experience with IE
Keep it up!!
