Thank you for all of your support regarding the news I shared with you all yesterday. Reaching out for help definitely isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it was definitely the right thing for me to do.
Even though I have a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition and am able to call myself a nutritionist, I felt like I needed extra help even if I am qualified and knowledgable myself. This was hard for me to admit to myself, but a very special friend of mine told me, “even personal trainers get personal training some times!” This little reminder made me feel a lot better and much more confident with my decision to seek help from a dietitian even though I am well on my way to becoming one myself.
During my first appointment with my new dietitian, we made three mini challenges for myself to do throughout the week until we met up again. These three challenges were:
1. Have at least one “treat” or meal that I usually wouldn’t have.
2. Make a pot of “unknown” oatmeal.
3. Have at least one smoothie each day.
Eventually, I will write about each challenge and explain how I tackled them, but today I will fill you in on the smoothie challenge.
In order to increase my daily caloric intake even more, my dietitian suggested introducing more smoothies into my diet. This excited me because I like the thought of smoothies, but rarely have them. I only really drink them post workout if and when I do have them, but since creating the smoothie challenge with my dietitian, I’ve been sipping on a smoothie throughout the my mornings.
I got really excited for this challenge and started pinning smoothie recipes like a mad woman (I even have a Pinterest board called Smoothie Challenge!), but I actually haven’t even followed any recipes at all! I’ve gotten creative and have been able to develop some pretty tasty recipes all on my own!
My favourite smoothie that I’ve made to date is my Chocolate Cherry Protein Smoothie.
1 cup frozen cherries
1 scoop protein powder (you can use any protein powder you like, but I used Raw Organic Whey)
1 TBSP cocoa
almond milk (I didn’t measure, but approximately 1/2 cup)
5 ice cubes
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
I’ve made plenty of other smoothies, too!
Blackberry with Chinese 5 Spice,
pineapple and banana, blueberry coconut, and chocolate banana, but the chocolate cherry is definitely my overall favourite!
My dietitian has also given me some of her favourite smoothie recipes, so I’ll be making some of those soon! The one that caught my eye in particular is her “Silky Mango Smoothie” recipe which has mango and avocado in it!
If you’d like to link me up to your favourite smoothie recipe please feel free to do so in the comment section below!
