I’m so sad that today is my last day in Utah.
I can’t believe I’ve been here an entire week already. It’s been a life changing experience and I wish it didn’t have to end, but it’s reassuring to know I’ll be back next summer
Yesterday was my last full day in Utah and it couldn’t have been spent in a better way. Candice and I did the WOD at GPP at 9:30 and then I spent the remainder of the morning after our workout talking to Neil Anderson, the founder of GPP Fitness.
Neil is incredible and has a heart of gold. He’s so educated and really knows his stuff. Every time you walk away from having a conversation with him you walk away with new knowledge. Anyone who has talked to Neil before in their life would agree.
I told him I’d be blogging about GPP Fitness for my next couple of posts as I want to update you and educate you on all that I learnt during the GPP Intensive Training. So, we talked a lot about what GPP is.
Even though you could easily visit their blog and read about what GPP is here by following their “What Is GPP Fitness?” tab, Neil and I both agreed that it would be much more meaningful for me to write a post describing it in my own words using the education I gained over the past weekend.
So, What is GPP Fitness?
Well, there really isn’t a one sentence answer I can give you to answer that question because GPP is a combination of so many different things. So, in order to fully understand what GPP is let me tell you what it stands for. GPP is the acronym for General Physical Preparedness.
GPP Fitness generally prepares you physically.
The second most important thing to know about GPP is our goal. Our one and only goal is health, optimal health if you will. And to achieve optimal health one must have a perfect balance of each type of health:
6. Physical <—- must be at the base
GPP’s workouts are physical; however, the physical aspect of health addressed through GPP workouts feed to all of the other areas of health, which is why it is at the base and also why I asked you the question “why do you exercise?” yesterday.
It is important to know your goal when exercising. The why. All of you gave me incredible answers and all of them had to do with all of the aspects of health except physical. Not one person said “I exercise to look a certain way.” Most of your answers had to do with confidence, happiness, mental health, powerfulness, bad ass-ness All of your reasons were something other than physical.
So, that’s why GPP Fitness is so amazing, it provides us with all of the things to satisfy all of the aspects of our health.
There is no exclusion in GPP Fitness and if there were exclusions, we would be unable to achieve optimal health because having a perfect balance of all aspects of health would be impossible with exclusions.
GPP’s ultimate goal is optimal fitness, not to be the strongest or fittest person in the world nor the fastest or the most flexible.
GPP includes all 10 aspects of fitness:
6. Cardiovascular Endurance
By including all 10 aspects of fitness, we can achieve a perfect balance of all of the six aspects of health to be optimally healthy and generally physically prepared for life.
So, to quote Neil, “GPP is a system that generally prepares you physically with one goal, to achieve optimal health.”
I hope that clarifies what GPP Fitness is for you, but if you have more questions please feel free to ask me in the comment section below. I have a lot more to say about GPP and the training I took this past weekend, so be ready for a lot of fitness posts in the upcoming days! I hope you’re enjoying them so far!
