September Goals

by Meg on September 4, 2013

I’m so happy all of you seem to be so excited for my new Tea Tuesday series! I’m excited, too, so it was nice to hear such great feedback after yesterday’s post! :)

Other than just being excited for Tea Tuesday, I’m also excited for the new month of September.

Lately, I haven’t making goals for myself at the beginning of each month, but I’ve been feeling like I’m in need of a little more structure in my life (it might have to do with school starting tomorrow!), so I’ve decided to make a few goals for myself this month and share them with you to hold myself accountable and, if all goes as planned, I’ll review these goals at the end of September and see how I did!

Incorporate nutrition into my posts as I mentioned yesterday, as I am a Nutritionist (and also studying to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist), I would like to incorporate more nutrition related knowledge into my posts.

Yesterday I read over some material to prepare myself for my upcoming school year and read about the most successful ways to learn the information you are given throughout your classes. Practice. So, I believe that if I incorporate more nutrition into my posts, I’m practicing my knowledge; therefore, learning more and always becoming more knowledgable. And I also want to provide you with information, so you can learn and develop an understanding about nutrition.

Practice double unders after yesterday’s workout I realized I need a lot of practice on these. It’s so unfair how it’s so much easier to picture yourself doing a double under (never mind consecutive double unders) compared to actually doing them or one in real life. I was able to get a few in here and there, but I can’t wait for the day when I can string together more than two double unders. Yes, right now two is my max.

Hopefully, by the end of September I can get at least three in a row. Progress, right? ;)

Try one new recipe a week because I’m in a huge rut. I was on a huge bread kick and then I ran out of bread. So, I moved onto bagels and then I ran out of bagels. Well, now I’m out of bagels and it seems like all I’ve been eating is sweet potatoes lately, so I’m definitely committing to trying at least one new recipe a week. I know this has been a goal of mine in the past, but I need more variety in my life. I love variety, so this goal is one I must implement. ASAP. I already have a list of recipes I want to try within the next few days…

Participate in Meatless Monday now that I’m a Team Vega Member I want to incorporate more plant based meals into my life. Heather hosts a great Meatless Monday link up that I’ve taken part in in the past, so I’d like to start that up again, but overall I’d just really like to incorporate more plant based meals into my diet. It will be a challenge for me, but a good one. A healthy one.

Make school my top priority this seems like such an obvious statement, but it’s something that I need to state and get out into the open so you all can see it. School is my top priority. If I miss a few days of blogging – so what. If my apartment is a mess for a few days – so what. If my laundry hamper is overflowing – so what! School is at the top of my priority list. This is my year to shine. I’m determined :)

Begin a gratitude journal as of September first I started a gratitude journal. Each night I will be writing down one thing that I’m grateful for that day. I’ve done this in the past, but have gotten out of the routine, but I’m ready to get back into it. It’s such a great habit to get into and it makes me feel so much happier and so much, well, grateful! What an amazing feeling! Feel free to join in with me! Please let me know if you do :)

Participate in Self Care September my good friend Anna had an amazing idea. Self Care September! You can read more about her idea here, but basically it’s a challenge that encourages everyone to take a little bit more care of themselves during this busy month of September! Self care can be anything from taking time to paint your nails one day or taking a long relaxing bath at the end of a long work day. Anything that shows self care! I love this idea and will definitely be showing myself more self care each and everyday because it’s so important! In order to participate in the challenge, post a picture of you showing self care and use the #selfcaresept hashtag when posting your picture :)

I can’t wait to see how you show yourself more self care!

Today I’m going for a haircut before my first day of school. Definitely #selfcaresept right there ;)

Will you be participating in #selfcaresept? Have you made goals for yourself this month? Who will be joining me in writing down one thing that they’re grateful for each day?

Love always,

Meg xo

If you’re looking for new recipes and want to have more meatless meals, I highly recommend Mark Bittman’s cookbook “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian.” Any recipe I’ve made from it has been fantastic and delicious. Easy, too!

I think a gratitude journal is a great idea – I really need to start journaling again. I feel like looking back over past journals is so helpful. And good luck with those double-unders, I can’t barely do regular jump rope!

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More September 4, 2013 at 8:58 AM

Such great goals! I just shared mine yesterday and I’m really hoping that I can successfully complete them all because it’ll put me in such a good place mentally, physically and socially! :)

Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl September 4, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Yay for Meatless Mondays! :)

I love the idea of a gratitude journal! These are all great goals, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with for MMAZ! I’m there almost every week!

I actually got a book for my birthday today that is a 2 year gratitude journal. Each day you write a brief sentence what you did, then answer what challenged you? what are you grateful for? etc. I absolutely can’t wait to do it each day! Right up my alley since I am a pretty reflective person, okay maybes thats a nice way of saying I’m a sap lol

Meg, I’m so glad I’m not the only one in a breakfast rut! I look forward to my banana, my spinach, and my omelette every morning, but I want to start adding a little more variety. I loved the look of your oat bowl you posted on Instagram today — maybe I’ll start with some muesli myself!

And good luck with school!! You sound so organized already, so I’m 100% positive that you’re going to succeed!

I look forward to seeing the posts with nutrition detail in them :) I particularly loved how you spoke about the benefits of what is contained in the Pistachio Cream Tea, so great to know the properties of what we put into our body :)

I’ve made resolutions for the month that I’m endeavoring to work on. I wrote a post yesterday about being in the present moment, and that is resolution one. I’m writing a post now about resolution number two … cut-back online shopping :P

Emily September 4, 2013 at 5:26 PM

I love all of these SO much.
I really want to start a gratitude journal too…I may just do that. And I’m right there with you on double-unders. I keep trying and I keep failing- it’s so frustrating! I know you’ll be rocking them in no time though!

purelytwins September 4, 2013 at 5:30 PM

we need a haircut!!

Heather @ Better With Veggies September 4, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Yay!! I am excited to see more of your amazing recipes in MMAZ!! And I love your idea of the gratitude journal, I should add that into my quiet time. :)

Julie September 4, 2013 at 8:58 PM

I love the idea of the gratitude journal. Also, I need to work on my double unders too!

Jaclyn September 4, 2013 at 9:50 PM

Hi Meg! I think self care encompasses far more that grooming and primping, though there is a time and place for that as well. :) Learning to be patient with yourself, accepting your mistakes and having realistic expectations for a day’s productivity all count!
All the best for #selfcaresept

Amanda Browning September 5, 2013 at 5:11 PM

Hi Meg, I am in your CSNN class this year, hopefully we will get to know each other, I too studied nutrition in University, but at the university of Guelph, see you in classes.

Anna @ Your Healthy Place September 5, 2013 at 9:35 PM

Thanks so much for sharing #selfcaresept, Meg! Today I had a video chat with some of my favourite people to unwind and rejuvenate and it was just what I needed! I really appreciate your participation and hope you notice the difference in your month! Your goals are so exciting but I always find that’s the case with Septembers and new beginnings! Xxxx

Elizabeth September 6, 2013 at 5:29 AM

Love your goals!! I LOVE setting goals each month -makes me so much more motivated and productive! I did burn myself out over the summer “over-goaling”, so I’m taking September off, but this post is making me wish I hadn’t. :)

Brittany @ Delights and Delectables September 6, 2013 at 3:49 PM

Great goals girl!! I can’t do a double under at all!! I can envision it.. but I can’t execute! lol
