It’s a new month and, with every new month, many of us seem to make new goals.
Have you made any new goals this month?
In the past, I’ve made long lists at the beginning of every month of new things I wanted to do, goals I wanted to accomplish, and changes I wanted to make. That was all fine and dandy, but I find that when I focus on one thing rather than a whole list of things, I am more successful. So, for the past few months I’ve just been focusing on one goal at the beginning of each month.
So, how will you do 50% more this month?
This month I will be focusing on doing 50% more stretching.
I train four days and have three rest/recovery days per week. I put all my effort into my training days to become stronger, faster, and more fit, but I realized that I wasn’t putting all of my effort into rest/recovery days.
Rest/recovery days are just as important as training days, so I decided to change this and start putting more effort into resting and recovering.
In order to rest and recover better, I’ve implemented foam rolling and a series of hip mobility stretches into my rest/recovery days. This is what my routine looks like:
10 minutes foam rolling (quads, hams, calves, adductor, piriformis, etc.)
Front-to-back leg swings
Side-to-side leg swings
Active spiderman stretch
I usually do 10 – 15 reps of each exercise 3 – 4 times.
Since implementing this little stretch routine into three days of my week, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my flexibility, range of motion, and form.
